Ἤ, ἀντὶ τῶν Ἀντιφώνων, κατὰ τὸ τυπικόν, ψάλλονται τὰ Τυπικὰ καὶ οἱ Μακαρισμοί.

In Your kingdom. Remember us, O Lord, when You come in Your kingdom. Blessed are the poor in spirit, for theirs is the kingdom of heaven [RSV]

Μακάριοι οἱ πενθοῦντες, ὅτι αὐτοὶ παρακληθήσονται.

Blessed are those who mourn, for they shall be comforted. [RSV]

Μακάριοι οἱ πρᾳεῖς, ὅτι αὐτοὶ κληρονομήσουσι τὴν γῆν.

Blessed are the meek, for they shall inherit the earth. [RSV]

Μακάριοι οἱ ἐλεήμονες, ὅτι αὐτοὶ ἐλεηθήσονται.

Blessed are the merciful, for they shall obtain mercy. [RSV]

Τὸ στερέωμα, τῶν ἐπὶ σοὶ πεποιθότων, στερέωσον Κύριε τὴν Ἐκκλησίαν, ἢν ἐκτήσω τῷ τιμίῳ σου αἵματι.

O Lord, the firm foundation of those trust in you, confirm the Church, which you purchased with your precious blood. [Lash]

Μακάριοι οἱ καθαροὶ τῇ καρδίᾳ, ὅτι αὐτοὶ τὸν Θεὸν ὄψονται.

Blessed are the pure in heart, for they shall see God. [RSV]

Ὁ πρωτότοκος ἐκ Πατρὸς πρὸ αἰώνων, Πρωτότοκος νήπιος, Κόρης ἀφθόρου, τῷ Ἀδὰμ χεῖρας προτείνων ἐπέφανε.

The First-born of the Father before the ages has appeared from an undefiled Maiden as a first-born babe, and he stretches out his hands to Adam. [Lash]

Blessed are the peacemakers, for they shall be called sons of God. [RSV]

Νηπιόφρονα, τὸν γεγονότα ἀπάτῃ, Πρωτόπλαστον ἔμπαλιν ἐπανορθώσων, Θεὸς Λόγος, νηπιάσας ἐπέφανε.

To set right again the first formed man, who through deception had become childish in mind, God the Word has appeared as a child. [Lash]

Μακάριοι οἱ δεδιωγμένοι ἕνεκεν δικαιοσύνης, ὅτι αὐτῶν ἐστιν ἡ Βασιλεία τῶν οὐρανῶν.

Blessed are those who are persecuted for righteousness’ sake, for theirs is the kingdom of heaven. [RSV]

Γῆς ἀπόγονον, παλινδρομήσασαν ταύτῃ, Θεότητος σύμμορφον φύσιν ὁ Πλάστης, ὡς ἀτρέπτως νηπιάσας ἀνέδειξε.

The Creator, having become a child without change, has reshaped according to the form of his godhead our nature born of earth and destined to return to earth again. [Lash]

Ἐβόησέ σοι.

Μακάριοι ἐστὲ ὅταν ὀνειδίσωσιν ὑμᾶς, καὶ διώξωσι, καὶ εἴπωσι πᾶν πονηρὸν ῥῆμα καθʼ ὑμῶν, ψευδόμενοι ἕνεκεν ἐμοῦ.

Blessed are you when men revile you and persecute you and utter all kinds of evil against you falsely [for my sake]. [RSV]

Ἐβόησέ σοι, ἰδὼν ὁ Πρέσβυς, τοῖς ὀφθαλμοῖς τὸ σωτήριον, ὃ λαοῖς ἐπέστη· Ἐκ Θεοῦ Χριστὲ σὺ Θεός μου.

The Elder having seen with his eyes, the salvation that had come to the people, cried aloud to you, 'O Christ, who come from God, You are my God!' [Lash]

Χαίρετε καὶ ἀγαλλιᾶσθε, ὅτι ὁ μισθὸς ὑμῶν πολὺς ἐν τοῖς οὐρανοῖς.

Rejoice and be glad, for your reward is great in heaven. [RSV]

Σιὼν σὺ λίθος, ἐναπετέθης, τοῖς ἀπειθοῦσι προσκόμματος, καὶ σκανδάλου πέτρα, ἀῤῥαγὴς πιστῶν σωτηρία.

You have been set up in Sion as a stumbling stone and rock of offence for the disobedient, unbreakable salvation of believers. [Lash]

Βεβαίως φέρων, τὸν χαρακτῆρα, τοῦ πρὸ αἰώνων σε φύσαντος, τὴν βροτῶν διʼ οἶκτον, νῦν ἀσθένειαν περιέθου.

Truly bearing the imprint of him who begot you before the ages, through compassion for mortals you have now put on their weakness. [Lash]

Υἱὸν Ὑψίστου, Υἱὸν Παρθένου, Θεὸν παιδίον γενόμενον, προσκυνήσαντά σε, νῦν ἀπόλυσον ἐν εἰρήνῃ.

I have worshipped you, Son of the Most High, Son of a Virgin, God become a little child. Now release me in peace.' [Lash]

God of our Fathers, who always deal with us in your forbearance, do not deprive us of your mercy, but at their intercessions guide our life in peace. [Lash]

You sanctified a virgin womb by your birth, and fittingly blessed Symeon’s hands; You have come now too and saved us, O Christ God. But give peace to your commonwealth in times of war, and strengthen its Rulers, whose friend you are, Only Lover of mankind. [Lash]

In the presence of God who gives life to all things, and of Christ Jesus who in his testimony before Pontius Pilate made the good confession, I charge you to keep the commandment unstained and free from reproach until the appearing of our Lord Jesus Christ; and this will be made manifest at the proper time by the blessed and only Sovereign, and King of kings and Lord of lords, who alone has immortality and dwells in unapproachable light, whom no man has ever seen or can see. The Lord said to his disciples, “Beware of the scribes, who like to go about in long robes, and love salutations in the market places and the best seats in the synagogues and the places of honor at feasts, who devour widows’ houses and for a pretense make long prayers. They will receive the greater condemnation.” He looked up and saw the rich putting their gifts into the treasury; and he saw a poor widow put in two copper coins. And he said, “Truly, I tell you, this poor widow has put in more than all of them; for they all contributed out of their abundance, but she out of her poverty put in all the living that she had.” Having said this, he proclaimed, “He who has ears to hear let him hear.” [RSV]

Hymn to the Theotokos.

Ἄξιόν ἐστιν ὡς ἀληθῶς μακαρίζειν σε τὴν Θεοτόκον, τὴν ἀειμακάριστον καὶ παναμώμητον καὶ μητέρα τοῦ Θεοῦ ἡμῶν. Τὴν τιμιωτέραν τῶν Χερουβεὶμ καὶ ἐνδοξοτέραν ἀσυγκρίτως τῶν Σεραφείμ, τὴν ἀδιαφθόρως Θεὸν Λόγον τεκοῦσαν, τὴν ὄντως Θεοτόκον, σὲ μεγαλύνομεν.

It is truly right to call you blessed, who gave birth to God, ever-blessed and most pure, and Mother of our God. Greater in honour than the Cherubim and beyond compare more glorious than the Seraphim, without corruption you gave birth to God the Word; truly the Mother of God, we magnify you.

Εἴδομεν τὸ φῶς τὸ ἀληθινόν, ἐλάβομεν Πνεῦμα ἐπουράνιον, εὕρομεν πίστιν ἀληθῆ, ἀδιαίρετον Τριάδα προσκυνοῦντες· αὕτη γὰρ ἡμᾶς ἔσωσεν.

We have seen the true light; we have received the heavenly Spirit; we have found the true faith, worshiping the undivided Trinity, for the Trinity has saved us.

May He who condescended to be held in the arms of righteous Symeon, for our salvation, Christ our true God, through the intercessions of His all-pure and all-immaculate holy Mother, the power of the precious and life-giving Cross, the protection of the honorable, bodiless powers of heaven, the supplications of the honorable, glorious prophet and forerunner John the Baptist, of the holy, glorious, and praiseworthy apostles, of the holy, glorious, and triumphant martyrs, of our righteous and God-bearing fathers, (local patron saint); of the holy and righteous ancestors of God Joachim and Anna, and of all the saints, have mercy on us and save us, as He is good, benevolent, and merciful God.
