Ἀγαλλιώμενοι, οἱ Τεσσαράκοντα Χριστοῦ Μάρτυρες, τὴν ἀλγεινὴν ὑπέμειναν πῆξιν ἐν λίμνῃ ἑστῶτες, ἐλπίδι τῶν θείων στεφάνων νευρούμενοι.	The forty martyrs rejoiced to endure the painful ice, ⁄ standing on the lake. ⁄ Yet they were strengthened by the hope of divine crowns. [OCA]

Γέλως προτίθεται, τοῖς Τεσσαράκοντα Χριστοῦ Μάρτυσιν, ἀποπνιγεὶς ὁ πρὶν ἐμφωλεύων, τοῖς ὕδασιν ὄφις, τὴν ὀλεθροτόκον· ἰσχὺν γὰρ ἀφῄρηται.	The serpent who before had made his nest in the waters ⁄ was driven out and became an object of scorn ⁄ for the forty martyrs of Christ. ⁄ He was deprived of his deadly strength! [OCA]
