The women came with ointments very early in the morning, and they saw that the tomb was empty. |
The women purchased ointments for Your burial, and they came to Your tomb very early in the morning. They feared the Judeans' overt hostility, and envisioned the soldiers' guard of security. And yet their weak nature prevailed over manliness, for their sympathetic sentiments were pleasing to God. So opportunely they shouted, "Arise, O Lord, and help us; and deliver us for Your name's sake." [SD] |

On the first day of the week at early dawn, the women went to the tomb, taking spices which they had prepared. And they found the stone rolled away from the tomb, but when they went in they did not find the body of the Lord Jesus. While they were perplexed about this, behold, two men stood by them in dazzling apparel; and as they were frightened and bowed their faces to the ground, the men said to them, “Why do you seek the living among the dead? He is not here, but has risen. Remember how he told you, while he was still in Galilee, that the Son of man must be delivered into the hands of sinful men, and be crucified, and on the third day rise.” And they remembered his words and returning from the tomb they told all this to the eleven and to all the rest. Now it was Mary Magdalene and Joanna and Mary the mother of James and the other women with them who told this to the Apostles; but these words seemed to them an idle tale, and they did not believe them. But Peter rose and ran to the tomb; stooping and looking in, he saw the linen cloths by themselves; and he went home wondering at what had happened. [RSV] |

Ψαλμὸς Nʹ (50). |
Psalm 50 (51). |
|
Mode 2. (or the Mode of the week) |
|
Have mercy on me, O God, according to Your great mercy; and according to the abundance of Your compassion, blot out my transgression. |
Wash me thoroughly from my lawlessness and cleanse me from my sin. |
For I know my lawlessness, and my sin is always before me. |
Against You only have I sinned and done evil in Your sight; that You may be justified in Your words, and overcome when You are judged. |
For behold, I was conceived in transgressions, and in sins my mother bore me. |
Behold, You love truth; You showed me the unknown and secret things of Your wisdom. |
You shall sprinkle me with hyssop, and I will be cleansed; You shall wash me, and I will be made whiter than snow. |
You shall make me hear joy and gladness; my bones that were humbled shall greatly rejoice. |
Turn Your face from my sins, and blot out all my transgressions. |
Create in me a clean heart, O God, and renew a right spirit within me. |
Do not cast me away from Your presence, and do not take Your Holy Spirit from me. |
Restore to me the joy of Your salvation, and uphold me with Your guiding Spirit. |
I will teach transgressors Your ways, and the ungodly shall turn back to You. |
Deliver me from bloodguiltiness, O God, the God of my salvation, and my tongue shall greatly rejoice in Your righteousness. |
O Lord, You shall open my lips, and my mouth will declare Your praise. |
For if You desired sacrifice, I would give it; You will not be pleased with whole burnt offerings. |
A sacrifice to God is a broken spirit, a broken and humbled heart God will not despise. |
Do good, O Lord, in Your good pleasure to Zion, and let the walls of Jerusalem be built. |
Then You will be pleased with a sacrifice of righteousness, with offerings and whole burnt offerings. |
Then shall they offer young bulls on Your altar. And have mercy on me, O God. [SAAS] |

Christ, our veritable Pascha, is the fulfillment of the Law; therefore He appeared as a male having opened the virgin womb; He has been called a Lamb as being edible; unblemished, as without stain; and He is said to be perfect, being very God. [SD] |

As they went to your tomb, O Saviour, the Myrrhbearers were troubled among themselves in mind and they said, 'Who will roll away the stone from the grave for us?' And looking up they see that the stone has been rolled away. They were amazed by the appearance of the Angel and his raiment; they were seized with fright and thought to flee; but the young man cried out to them, 'Do not be afraid. The one you seek has risen. Come, see the place where the body of Jesus was laid and going quickly tell his disciples: The Saviour has risen from the grave'. [Lash] |

The ointment-bearing women of Godly mind ran after You earnestly. Shedding tears, they sought for You as though You were mortal, then rejoicing they worshipped You the living God, O Christ, then they ran to Your disciples, announcing the mystic Passover. [SD] |

We celebrate that death has been put to death, Hades has been overthrown, and another, everlasting life has begun. And exulting we praise and extol the Cause, exalting the only God of the fathers, blessed and supremely glorious. [SD] |

Let the guards, who became as dead men, now say how he was stolen, whom they did not see, being wholly without sensation. Why do you guard him like a corpse? Why have you set seals on the stone, O Jews? Fearing theft? See, the tomb was truly sealed. How then did Christ arise unless he was God? Let those who arose and were seen by many persuade you. [Lash] |

[Lash] |

Resurrection Day! O peoples, let us brilliantly shine! * Pascha, the Lord's Pascha! * For Christ our God has out of death * passed us over into life, * and likewise from earth * to heaven, as we now sing * unto Him a triumphal hymn. [SD] |

This is it, the Day which is chosen and holy, * Day One of the Sabbaths. * It is the queen-day, the Lord's Day, * and the Feast of all feasts, * and the Festival above every festival, * on which we extol Christ and bless Him to the ages. [SD] |

Lk. 24:1 – 12 |
[RSV] |

[SAAS] |

O Women, hearken to the voice * that echoes with exultant joy. * Trampling on Hades, that tyrant, * I raised up all from corruption. * Run now with haste and tell my friends * good tidings as evangelists. * For I will that my creature see * joy distinctly arising * from woman, from whom came sorrow. αʹ. |
Verse 1: Let God arise, and let His enemies be scattered, and let those who hate Him flee from before His face. |
|
Today a sacred Pascha has been revealed to us; a Pascha new and holy, a Pascha mystical, a Pascha all-venerable, Pascha, the Redeemer Christ himself; a Pascha that is blameless, a Pascha that is great, a Pascha of believers, a Pascha that has opened for us the gates of Paradise, a Pascha that sanctifies believers all. [SD] |
βʹ. |
Verse 2: As smoke vanishes, so let them vanish, as wax melts before the fire. |
|
Come now from that sight, O you women and heralds of good news, and say to Zion, “Receive from us the joyful tidings of the Resurrection of Christ. O Jerusalem, be exultant, dance and leap for joy, for you have witnessed Christ the King coming forth as a Bridegroom from the sepulcher.” [SD] |
γʹ. |
Verse 3: So shall the sinners perish from the face of God. And let the righteous be glad. |
|
The myrrh-bearing women at dawn very early, standing outside the tomb of the Giver-of-Life, found an Angel who was seated upon the stone. And the Angel addressed them, and this is what he said, “Why do you seek among the dead the One who is alive? Why do you grieve as though corruptible the Incorrupt? So go back and proclaim it to His Disciples.” [SD] |
δʹ. |
Verse 4: This is the day the Lord made; let us greatly rejoice and be glad therein. |
|
Pascha of delight! Pascha, the Lord’s Pascha! A Pascha all venerable has risen for us. Pascha! With joy let us embrace one another. Pascha, the ransom from sorrow! Today from the sepulcher Christ emerged resplendently as from a bridal chamber, and the women He filled with joy, saying, “Proclaim this to the Apostles.” [SD] |

The women with their ointments went with Mary to the tomb, and they wondered how they would attain what they desired. Then they saw that the stone was rolled back, and also a godly young man who tried to quiet the disturbance of their souls. For he said, “The Lord Jesus has risen. Therefore, preach it to His Disciples and preachers, that they should go quickly to Galilee; and you will see Him, risen from the dead, as the Giver of Life and Lord.” [SD] |

It is the day of the Resurrection. Let us shine brightly for the festival, and also embrace one another. Brethren, let us say even to those who hate us, “Let us forgive everything for the Resurrection.” And thus let us cry aloud, “Christ is risen from the dead, by death trampling down upon death, and to those in the tombs He has granted life.” [RSD] |
