God is the Lord, and He revealed Himself to us. Blessed is he who comes in the name of the Lord. [SAAS]

Στίχ. αʹ. Ἐξομολογεῖσθε τῷ Κυρίῳ καὶ ἐπικαλεῖσθε τὸ ὄνομα τὸ ἅγιον αὐτοῦ.

Verse 1: Give thanks to the Lord and call upon His holy name.

Στίχ. βʹ. Πάντα τὰ ἔθνη ἐκύκλωσάν με, καὶ τῷ ὀνόματι Κυρίου ἠμυνάμην αὐτούς.

Verse 2: All the nations surrounded me, but in the name of the Lord I defended myself against them.

Στίχ. γʹ. Παρὰ Κυρίου ἐγένετο αὕτη καὶ ἔστι θαυμαστὴ ἐν ὀφθαλμοῖς ἡμῶν.

Verse 3: And this came about from the Lord, and it is wonderful in our eyes.

Σὲ Νυμφίε μου ποθῶ, καὶ σὲ ζητοῦσα ἀθλῶ, καὶ συσταυροῦμαι καὶ συνθάπτομαι τῷ βαπτισμῷ σου· καὶ πάσχω διὰ σέ, ὡς βασιλεύσω σὺν σοί, καὶ θνήσκω ὑπὲρ σοῦ, ἵνα καὶ ζήσω ἐν σοί· ἀλλʼ ὡς θυσίαν ἄμωμον προσδέχου τὴν μετὰ πόθου τυθεῖσάν σοι. Αὐτῆς πρεσβείαις, ὡς ἐλεήμων, σῶσον τὰς ψυχὰς ἡμῶν.

O Jesu, your lamb cries aloud: O my Bridegroom, I long for you; and seeking you I struggle, and I am crucified and buried with you in your baptism; and I suffer for your sake, that I may reign with you; and I die for you, that I may live in you; but as a spotless victim now accept one who with longing is slain for you. Through her prayers, as you are merciful, save our souls! [Lash]

Μνηστευθεῖσα τῷ Λόγῳ, Μαρίνα ἔνδοξε, τῶν ἐπιγείων τὴν σχέσιν πᾶσαν κατέλιπες, καὶ ἐνήθλησας λαμπρῶς ὡς καλλιπάρθενος· τὸν γὰρ ἀόρατον ἐχθρόν, κατεπάτησας στεῤῥῶς, ὀφθέντα σοι Ἀθληφόρε. Καὶ νῦν πηγάζεις τῷ κόσμῳ, τῶν ἰαμάτων τὰ χαρίσματα.

O Marina, when you were to the Logos betrothed, * then you left all your earthly relationships behind, * and you famously contested as a virgin most fine. * For you strenuously trampled on the enemy when he appeared to you, O prizewinner. * And to the world now you pour out cures and healings, by the grace of God. Τῆς παναγίας, ἀχράντου, ὑπερευλογημένης, ἐνδόξου, δεσποίνης ἡμῶν Θεοτόκου καὶ ἀειπαρθένου Μαρίας μετὰ πάντων τῶν ἁγίων μνημονεύσαντες, ἑαυτοὺς καὶ ἀλλήλους καὶ πᾶσαν τὴν ζωὴν ἡμῶν Χριστῷ τῷ Θεῷ παραθώμεθα.

Commemorating our all-holy, pure, most blessed and glorious Lady, Mother of God and Ever-Virgin Mary, with all the Saints, let us entrust ourselves and one another and our whole life to Christ our God.

Τὸν ὡραιότατον Χριστὸν ἀγαπήσασα, καὶ διʼ ἁγνείας τὴν ψυχὴν ὡραΐσασα, διὰ παντοίων πόνων τε καὶ θλίψεων, τούτῳ κατηγγύησαι, ὥσπερ ἄμωμος νύμφη· ὅθεν σε ἠξίωσεν, οὐρανίων θαλάμων, ὑπὲρ ἡμῶν πρεσβεύουσαν αὐτῷ, τῶν σὲ τιμώντων Μαρίνα πανεύφημε.

You truly loved the Savior Christ who is handsome, * and through your chastity your soul shone with beauty, * and thus by means of every kind of labor and distress, * you betrothed yourself to Him, as a bride who is blameless. * So He gave you access to the heavenly chambers. * And you, all-lauded Saint Marina, pray * to Him in earnest * for us who now honor you. Ὡς ἄμωμος ἀμνάς, καὶ ἁγνὴ τῷ Κυρίῳ, συνήφθης μυστικῶς, ἐν σεμνότητι βίου, τῷ κάλλει τῆς ἀθλήσεως, σεαυτὴν ὡραΐσασα· ὅθεν εἴληφας, τῶν ἰαμάτων τὴν χάριν, ἰατρεύουσα τὰ ἀῤῥωστήματα πάντα, δυνάμει τοῦ Πνεύματος.

By purity of life, as a lamb without blemish, * you mystically were joined to the Lord, O pure maiden, * and also adorned yourself with the beauty of martyrdom. * Therefore you received the grace of God to work healings; * by the power of the Spirit, you cure diseases * and illness of every kind. Μητέρα σε Θεοῦ, ἐπιστάμεθα πάντες, Παρθένον ἀληθῶς, καὶ μετὰ τόκον φανεῖσαν, οἱ πόθῳ καταφεύγοντες, πρὸς τὴν σὴν ἀγαθότητα· σὲ γὰρ ἔχομεν, ἁμαρτωλοὶ προστασίαν· σὲ κεκτήμεθα, ἐν πειρασμοῖς σωτηρίαν, τὴν μόνην πανάμωμον.

All we who with longing flee for refuge to your goodness know you to be Mother of God and after childbirth still truly Virgin; for we sinners have you as protection; in temptations we have you as salvation, the only All-blameless one. [Lash]

Τὸ Μηναῖον δὲν προβλέπει Εὐαγγέλιον τοῦ Ὄρθρου.

The Menaion does not indicate a Matins Gospel. We have included this section as optional.

Ἐκ νεότητός μου πολλὰ πολεμεῖ με πάθη· ἀλλʼ αὐτὸς ἀντιλαβοῦ, καὶ σῶσον Σωτήρ μου. (δίς)

From my youth up many passions make war on me; but you, O Saviour, help me and save me. (2) [Lash]

Οἱ μισοῦντες Σιών, αἰσχύνθητε ἀπὸ τοῦ Κυρίου· ὡς χόρτος γάρ, πυρὶ ἔσεσθε ἀπεξηραμμένοι. (δίς)

You who hate Sion, may you be put to shame by the Lord; for you will be dried up as grass by fire. (2) [Lash]

Ἁγίῳ Πνεύματι πᾶσα ψυχὴ ζωοῦται, καὶ καθάρσει ὑψοῦται, λαμπρύνεται, τῇ τριαδικῇ μονάδι ἱεροκρυφίως.

By the Holy Spirit every soul is given life, and by cleansing it is exalted; it is made bright by the threefold Unity in a sacred mystery. [Lash]

Ἁγίῳ Πνεύματι, ἀναβλύζει τὰ τῆς χάριτος ῥεῖθρα, ἀρδεύοντα, ἅπασαν τὴν κτίσιν πρὸς ζωογονίαν.

By the Holy Spirit the streams of grace well up; watering all creation to engender life. [Lash]

Verse: The righteous shall flourish like a palm tree; he shall be multiplied like the cedar in Lebanon.

The Lord said this parable, “The kingdom of heaven is like ten virgins who took their lamps and went to meet the bridegroom. Five of them were foolish, and five were wise. For when the foolish took their lamps, they took no oil with them; but the wise took flasks of oil with their lamps. As the bridegroom was delayed, they all slumbered and slept. But at midnight there was a cry, ‘Behold, the bridegroom! Come out to meet him.’ Then all those virgins rose and trimmed their lamps. And the foolish said to the wise, ‘Give us some of your oil, for our lamps are going out.’ But the wise replied, ‘Perhaps there will not be enough for us and for you; go rather to the dealers and buy for yourselves.’ And while they went to buy, the bridegroom came, and those who were ready went in with him to the marriage feast; and the door was shut. Afterward the other virgins came also, saying, ‘Lord, lord, open to us.’ But he replied, ‘Truly, I say to you, I do not know you.’ Watch therefore, for you know neither the day nor the hour in which the Son of man is coming.” [RSV]

Come godly-minded people, as we celebrate this divine and honoured feast of the Mother of God, let us clap our hands as we glorify the God who was born of her. [Lash]

The godlike Children did not worship creation instead of the Creator, but bravely trampling on the threat of fire, rejoicing they sang: O highly exalted Lord and God of our fathers, blessed are you! [Lash]

Αἰνοῦμεν, εὐλογοῦμεν καὶ προσκυνοῦμεν τὸν Κύριον.

We praise and we bless and we worship the Lord.

Παῖδας εὐαγεῖς ἐν τῇ καμίνῳ, ὁ τόκος τῆς Θεοτόκου διεσώσατο, τότε μὲν τυπούμενος, νῦν δὲ ἐνεργούμενος, τὴν οἰκουμένην ἅπασαν, ἀγείρει ψάλλουσαν. Τὸν Κύριον ὑμνεῖτε τὰ ἔργα, καὶ ὑπερυψοῦτε, εἰς πάντας τοὺς αἰῶνας.

The Offspring of the Mother of God saved the innocent Youths in the furnace. Then he was prefigured, but now in reality he gathers the whole world which sings: All you works praise the Lord, and highly exalt him to all the ages. [Lash]
