[Σημ. Ὅπου κατά τάς σημειώσεις τοῦ Τυπικοῦ (ΤΜΕ, 1ῃ Αὐγ. § 2, σελ. 295) καί τοῦ Μηναίου πρόκειται νά γίνῃ ἡ Πρόοδος καί ἡ Προσκύνησις τοῦ Τιμίου Σταυροῦ – κατά τήν τάξιν τῆς Γʹ Κυριακῆς τῶν Νηστειῶν – μετά τήν τελετήν ψάλλεται τό· «Σῶσον, Κύριε, τόν λαόν σου…» καί εἰς τήν Θ. Λειτουργίαν τά Ἀντίφωνα τῆς Γʹ Κυριακῆς τῶν Νηστειῶν. Ἀντί δέ τοῦ Τρισαγίου· «Τόν Σταυρόν σου προσκυνοῦμεν…».]

[Note: Wherever the Procession and Veneration of the Holy Cross will take place (see notes in the Typikon and the Menaion on 1 Aug), according to the order followed on the Third Sunday of Lent (at the end of the Great Doxology of Matins), after the ceremony sing, “Save, O Lord, Your people…” At the Divine Liturgy, use the Antiphons of the Third Sunday of Lent; and instead of “Holy God…” sing, “We venerate Your Cross…”]

Ἤ, ἀντὶ τῶν Ἀντιφώνων, κατὰ τὸ τυπικόν, ψάλλονται τὰ Τυπικὰ καὶ οἱ Μακαρισμοί.

An optional alternative to the Antiphons are the Typika (Psalms 102 and 145), and the Beatitudes with the appointed troparia, which are provided here.

Blessed are the merciful, for they shall obtain mercy. [RSV]

Σταυρὸς ἁπάντων τῶν καλῶν, παρεκτικὸς καθορᾶται, προσκυνούμενος· καὶ πᾶσα ἡ κτίσις, ἑορτάζει ἐν χαρᾷ, φωτιζομένη χάριτι, τοῦ ἐν αὐτῷ βουλήσει, ἀνυψωθέντος Θεοῦ ἡμῶν.

The Cross, cause of all blessings, is seen and worshipped; and all creation keeps festival with joy, enlightened by the grace of our God who was willingly lifted up on it. [Lash]

Μακάριοι οἱ καθαροὶ τῇ καρδίᾳ, ὅτι αὐτοὶ τὸν Θεὸν ὄψονται.

Blessed are the pure in heart, for they shall see God. [RSV]

Καταυγαζόμενοι φωτί, τῶν τοῦ Σταυροῦ λαμπηδόνων, ὁλικῶς οἱ ἐν αὐτῷ πεποιθότες, σκοτασμὸν ἁμαρτιῶν, ἐκφύγωμεν καὶ κράξωμεν· Ὁ φωτισμὸς τῶν ὅλων, εὔσπλαγχνε Κύριε, δόξα σοι.

Made radiant with the light of the splendours of the Cross and having put all our trust in it, let us flee the darkness of sins and let us cry, 'O enlightenment of all thins, compassionate Lord, glory to you!' [Lash]

Μακάριοι οἱ εἰρηνοποιοί, ὅτι αὐτοὶ Υἱοὶ Θεοῦ κληθήσονται.

Blessed are the peacemakers, for they shall be called sons of God. [RSV]

Ὑμνολογοῦμέν σε Σταυρέ, καὶ προσπτυσσόμεθα πίστει, ἐξαιτούμενοι τὴν σὴν δυναστείαν. Ἐξελοῦ ἡμᾶς ἐχθροῦ, παγίδων καὶ κυβέρνησον, πρὸς ὅρμον ἡμᾶς πάντας, τῆς σωτηρίας ὑμνοῦντάς σε.

We sing your praise, O Cross, and we embrace you with faith as we beg your mighty power, 'Rescue us from the snares of the foe, and pilot us all to the haven of salvation as we sing your praise'. [Lash]

Μακάριοι οἱ δεδιωγμένοι ἕνεκεν δικαιοσύνης, ὅτι αὐτῶν ἐστιν ἡ Βασιλεία τῶν οὐρανῶν.

Blessed are those who are persecuted for righteousness’ sake, for theirs is the kingdom of heaven. [RSV]

Νενεκρωμένην τὴν Ζωήν, ἐπὶ Σταυροῦ θεωροῦσα, καὶ μὴ φέρουσα τῶν σπλάγχνων τὸν πόνον, ἐδονεῖτο ἡ σεμνή, Παρθένος ἀνακράζουσα· Οἴμοι! Υἱέ μου τί σοι, δῆμος ἀνόμων πεποίηκεν;

As she watched life that had died on a Cross, and unable to bear the pain in her heart, the holy Virgin was deeply troubled and she cried, 'Alas, my Son! What has a lawless people done to you?' [Lash]

Μακάριοι ἐστὲ ὅταν ὀνειδίσωσιν ὑμᾶς, καὶ διώξωσι, καὶ εἴπωσι πᾶν πονηρὸν ῥῆμα καθʼ ὑμῶν, ψευδόμενοι ἕνεκεν ἐμοῦ.

Blessed are you when men revile you and persecute you and utter all kinds of evil against you falsely [for my sake]. [RSV]

Ἡ σοφία τοῦ Θεοῦ, ᾠκοδόμησε ναόν, καὶ ὑπήρεισεν αὐτόν, ἑπτὰ στύλοις λογικοῖς, προγράφουσα, τοὺς Παῖδας τούτους, ὡς νόμου φύλακας.

The Wisdom of God built a temple and supported it on seven spiritual pillars, foreshadowing these Youths as guardians of the Law. [Lash]

Χαίρετε καὶ ἀγαλλιᾶσθε, ὅτι ὁ μισθὸς ὑμῶν πολὺς ἐν τοῖς οὐρανοῖς.

Rejoice and be glad, for your reward is great in heaven. [RSV]

Ἡ σοφὴ Σολομονή, υἱοὺς ἔτεκεν ἑπτά, οὓς ἐθρέψατο καλῶς, Ἐλεάζαρ ὁ σοφός· καὶ ἔστεψεν, ἡ θεία χάρις, στεῤῥῶς ἀθλήσαντας.

Wise Solomoni gave birth to seven sons, whom wise Eleazar brought up well; and when they had struggled bravely divine grace crowned them. [Lash]

Let us faithfully worship the Father and the Son and the right Spirit in one Godhead, as we cry, 'Holy Trinity, save your world!' [Lash]

Πῶς ἐγέννησας Υἱόν, ὃν οὐκ ἔσπειρε πατήρ; πῶς διέμεινας Ἁγνή, μετὰ τόκον ὥσπερ ἦς; Θεὸς οἶδεν, ὁ πάντα πράττων, ὅπως ἂν βούληται.

How did you bear a Son whom no father had begotten? How did you remain pure after child-birth as you were before? It is God who knows, who does all things just as he wills. [Lash]

The holy martyrs suffered painful tortures for Your sake, O Lord; be compelled by what they endured, and heal our every pain, we entreat You, O only benevolent God. [SD]

Brethren, all the saints through faith conquered kingdoms, enforced justice, received promises, stopped the mouths of lions, quenched raging fire, escaped the edge of the sword, won strength out of weakness, became mighty in war, put foreign armies to flight. Women received their dead by resurrection. Some were tortured, refusing to accept release, that they might rise again to a better life. Others suffered mocking and scourging, and even chains and imprisonment. They were stoned, they were sawn in two, they were tempted, they were killed with the sword; they went about in skins of sheep and goats, destitute, afflicted, ill-treated — of whom the world was not worthy — wandering over deserts and mountains and in dens and caves of the earth. And all these, though well attested by their faith, did not receive what was promised, since God had foreseen something better for us, that apart from us they should not be made perfect. Therefore, since we are surrounded by so great a cloud of witnesses, let us also lay aside every weight, and sin that easily distracts, and let us run with perseverance the race that is set before us, looking to Jesus the pioneer and perfecter of faith. When they deliver you up, do not be anxious how you are to speak or what you are to say; for what you are to say will be given to you in that hour; for it is not you who speak, but the Spirit of your Father speaking through you. Ἄξιόν ἐστιν ὡς ἀληθῶς μακαρίζειν σε τὴν Θεοτόκον, τὴν ἀειμακάριστον καὶ παναμώμητον καὶ μητέρα τοῦ Θεοῦ ἡμῶν. Τὴν τιμιωτέραν τῶν Χερουβεὶμ καὶ ἐνδοξοτέραν ἀσυγκρίτως τῶν Σεραφείμ, τὴν ἀδιαφθόρως Θεὸν Λόγον τεκοῦσαν, τὴν ὄντως Θεοτόκον, σὲ μεγαλύνομεν.

It is truly right to call you blessed, who gave birth to God, ever-blessed and most pure, and Mother of our God. Greater in honour than the Cherubim and beyond compare more glorious than the Seraphim, without corruption you gave birth to God the Word; truly the Mother of God, we magnify you.

Εἴδομεν τὸ φῶς τὸ ἀληθινόν, ἐλάβομεν Πνεῦμα ἐπουράνιον, εὕρομεν πίστιν ἀληθῆ, ἀδιαίρετον Τριάδα προσκυνοῦντες· αὕτη γὰρ ἡμᾶς ἔσωσεν.

We have seen the true light; we have received the heavenly Spirit; we have found the true faith, worshiping the undivided Trinity, for the Trinity has saved us.

Χριστὸς ὁ ἀληθινὸς Θεὸς ἡμῶν, ταῖς πρεσβείαις τῆς παναχράντου καὶ παναμώμου ἁγίας αὐτοῦ Μητρός, δυνάμει τοῦ τιμίου καὶ ζωοποιοῦ Σταυροῦ, οὗ τὴν πρόοδον ἐπιτελοῦμεν· προστασίαις τῶν τιμίων ἐπουρανίων δυνάμεων ἀσωμάτων, ἱκεσίαις τοῦ τιμίου, ἐνδόξου, προφήτου, προδρόμου καὶ βαπτιστοῦ Ἰωάννου, τῶν ἁγίων ἐνδόξων καὶ πανευφήμων ἀποστόλων, τῶν ἁγίων ἐνδόξων καὶ καλλινίκων μαρτύρων· τῶν ὁσίων καὶ θεοφόρων πατέρων ἡμῶν· (τοῦ ἁγίου τοῦ ναοῦ)· τῶν ἁγίων καὶ δικαίων θεοπατόρων Ἰωακεὶμ καὶ Ἄννης, τῶν Ἁγίων ἑπτὰ Μαρτύρων τῶν Μακκαβαίων καὶ τοῦ διδασκάλου αὐτῶν Ἐλεαζάρου καὶ τῆς μητρὸς αὐτῶν Σολομονῆς, ὧν καὶ τὴν μνήμην ἐπιτελοῦμεν· καὶ πάντων τῶν ἁγίων, ἐλεήσαι καὶ σώσαι ἡμᾶς, ὡς ἀγαθὸς καὶ φιλάνθρωπος καὶ ἐλεήμων Θεός.

May Christ our true God, through the intercessions of His all-pure and all-immaculate holy Mother, the power of the precious and life-giving Cross, the procession of which we observe; the protection of the honorable, bodiless powers of heaven, the supplications of the honorable, glorious prophet and forerunner John the Baptist, of the holy, glorious, and praiseworthy apostles, of the holy, glorious, and triumphant martyrs, of our righteous and God-bearing fathers, (local patron saint); of the holy and righteous ancestors of God Joachim and Anna, the Seven Holy Martyrs, the Maccabees, their Teacher Eleazar, and their Mother Solomone, whose memory we observe, and of all the saints, have mercy on us and save us, as He is good, benevolent, and merciful God.

Κατάλυσις οἴνου καὶ ἐλαίου.

Wine: Wine and oil are allowed. Refrain from meat, fish, dairy, and eggs.

Εἶναι ἡ νηστεία τοῦ Δεκαπενταυγούτου.
