Ὁ Μάρτυς σου Κύριε, ἐν τῇ ἀθλήσει αὐτοῦ, τὸ στέφος ἐκομίσατο τῆς ἀφθαρσίας, ἐκ σοῦ τοῦ Θεοῦ ἡμῶν· ἔχων γὰρ τὴν ἰσχύν σου, τοὺς τυράννους καθεῖλεν· ἔθραυσε καὶ δαιμόνων, τὰ ἀνίσχυρα θράση. A rule of faith are you, and an icon of gentleness, and a teacher of self-control. And to your flock this was evident, by the truth of your life and deeds. You were humble and therefore you acquired exalted gifts, treasure in heaven for being poor. Holy and devout Father John, intercede with Christ our God, and entreat Him to save our souls. [SD]

Παρθένε πανάμωμε, Μήτηρ Χριστοῦ τοῦ Θεοῦ, ῥομφαία διῆλθέ σου, τὴν παναγίαν ψυχήν, ἡνίκα σταυρούμενον, ἔβλεψας ἑκουσίως, τὸν Υἱὸν καὶ Θεόν σου· ὅν περ εὐλογημένη, δυσωποῦσα μὴ παύσῃ, συγχώρησιν πταισμάτων, ἡμῖν δωρήσασθαι.	Virgin most pure, Mother of Christ God, a sword passed through your all-holy soul when you saw your Son and God willingly crucified. Do not cease, O blessed one, to implore him to grant us pardon of offences. [Lash]

Ἐξηγόρασας ἡμᾶς ἐκ τῆς κατάρας τοῦ νόμου, τῷ τιμίῳ σου αἵματι· τῷ Σταυρῷ προσηλωθείς, καὶ τῇ λόγχῃ κεντηθείς, τὴν ἀθανασίαν ἐπήγασας ἀνθρώποις. Σωτὴρ ἡμῶν δόξα σοι.	You redeemed us from the curse of the law by your precious blood; nailed to the Cross and pierced by the lance, you became a source of immortality for all. Our Saviour, glory to you. [Lash]

Ὁ ὑψωθεὶς ἐν τῷ Σταυρῷ ἑκουσίως, τῇ ἐπωνύμῳ σου καινῇ πολιτείᾳ, τοὺς οἰκτιρμούς σου δώρησαι, Χριστὲ ὁ Θεός. Εὔφρανον ἐν τῇ δυνάμει σου, τοὺς πιστοὺς βασιλεῖς ἡμῶν, νίκας χορηγῶν αὐτοῖς, κατὰ τῶν πολεμίων· τὴν συμμαχίαν ἔχοιεν τὴν σήν, ὅπλον εἰρήνης, ἀήττητον τρόπαιον.	Lifted up on the Cross of your own will, grant your mercies, O Christ God, to the new commonwealth that bears your name. Make your faithful people glad by your power, giving them victory over their enemies. May they have your help in battle: a weapon of peace, an invincible trophy. [Lash]

Παρεστῶσα τῷ Σταυρῷ, ἡ παναμώμητος ἀμνάς, τοῦ ἀμνοῦ καὶ λυτρωτοῦ, θρήνοις ἐκόπτετο δεινοῖς, καὶ ἀτενίζουσα ἔλεγεν ἐκπληττομένη. Τί τοῦτο τὸ καινόν, καὶ ξένον θέαμα; γλυκύτατε Υἱέ, πῶς φέρεις ταῦτα ἑκών, ὑπομένεις σταύρωσιν, πῶς ἑκούσιον, καὶ τὸν ἐπώδυνον θάνατον; Δοξολογῶ σου, τὴν ὑπὲρ λόγον, πλαστουργὲ συγκατάβασιν.	As she stood by the Cross of the Lamb and Redeemer, the all-blameless Ewe-Lamb was smitten with dread lamentations and looking up she said in her amazement: What is this new and strange sight? My sweetest Son, how do you bear all this willingly? How do you endure voluntary crucifixion and a painful death? O Creator, I glorify your condescension beyond understanding. [Lash]

Come quickly, O Lord, and keep us from becoming enslaved * to foes who speak blasphemies against You, Christ our God, * and boastfully threaten us. * Annihilate by the power of Your Cross those who fight us. * Let them know how the faith of the Orthodox has power. * Only benevolent God, accept Your Mother’s prayers for us. When I had fallen terribly in Paradise by the bitter advice of the slayer of mortals, you raised me up again, O Christ, on Calvary, healing by a Tree the curse of the tree, slaying the serpent that had put me to death by deception and granting me divine life. Have mercy on me, O God, according to Your great mercy; and according to the abundance of Your compassion, blot out my transgression. Against You only have I sinned and done evil in Your sight; that You may be justified in Your words, and overcome when You are judged. For behold, I was conceived in transgressions, and in sins my mother bore me. Behold, You love truth; You showed me the unknown and secret things of Your wisdom. You shall sprinkle me with hyssop, and I will be cleansed; You shall wash me, and I will be made whiter than snow.
