God is the Lord, and He revealed Himself to us. Blessed is he who comes in the name of the Lord. [SAAS]

Στίχ. αʹ. Ἐξομολογεῖσθε τῷ Κυρίῳ καὶ ἐπικαλεῖσθε τὸ ὄνομα τὸ ἅγιον αὐτοῦ.

Verse 1: Give thanks to the Lord and call upon His holy name.

Στίχ. βʹ. Πάντα τὰ ἔθνη ἐκύκλωσάν με, καὶ τῷ ὀνόματι Κυρίου ἠμυνάμην αὐτούς.

Verse 2: All the nations surrounded me, but in the name of the Lord I defended myself against them.

Στίχ. γʹ. Παρὰ Κυρίου ἐγένετο αὕτη καὶ ἔστι θαυμαστὴ ἐν ὀφθαλμοῖς ἡμῶν.

Verse 3: And this came about from the Lord, and it is wonderful in our eyes.

The mystery hidden from all eternity and unknown to Angels has been revealed to those on earth through you, O Mother of God: God being made flesh in a union without confusion, and willingly accepting the Cross for us, through which he raised the first-formed man and saved our souls from death. Commemorating our all-holy, pure, most blessed and glorious Lady, Mother of God and Ever-Virgin Mary, with all the Saints, let us entrust ourselves and one another and our whole life to Christ our God.

Elizabeth has been freed from sterility, while the Virgin, remained once more a Virgin, when at Gabriel’s voice she conceived in the womb. But the Forerunner John leaps in the womb having recognised the one in the virgin womb to be God and Master, incarnate for our salvation. [Lash]

Τρυγὼν ἡ φιλέρημος, ὁ ἱερὸς Βαπτιστής, κηρύξας μετάνοιαν, καὶ φανερώσας Χριστόν, γενόμενον ἄνθρωπον, πάντων ἁμαρτανόντων, ἐγεννήθη προστάτης, πᾶσι χειμαζομένοις βοηθῶν ἀενάως. Αὐτοῦ ταῖς ἱκεσίαις Χριστέ, σῶσον τὸν κόσμον σου.

The desert-loving dove, the holy Baptist, preaching repentance and revealing Christ become man, has become the advocate of all who sin, unendingly helping those who are storm-tossed. At his intercessions, O Christ, save your world. [Lash]

Let us open the sacred Gospel, which holy and wondrous Luke wrote for us, and let us contemplate the radiant and notable conception of the Forerunner. For, he says, when the Elder and righteous Zachary entered the Holy of Holies to offer incense at the moment of the daily service, Gabriel appeared to him bringing good tidings and saying: You have a son, Hierarch, in your old age, the Prophet and Forerunner, voice and herald, ever-lighted lamp and initiate of grace. On September 23 we remember the conception of the holy and glorious Prophet, Forerunner and Baptist John.

On this day we commemorate the holy martyrs Andrew, John, Peter and Anthony who died in Africa.

On this day we commemorate the holy Martyr Rais the virgin.

Τῇ αὐτῇ ἡμέρᾳ μνήμη τῶν ὁσίων γυναικῶν Ξανθίππης καὶ Πολυξένης, τῶν αὐταδέλφων.

On this day we commemorate the holy women Xanthippe and Polyxeni the sisters.

Ὁ ἅγιος Νεομάρτυς Νικόλοας ὁ παντοπώλης, ὁ ἐν Κωνσταντινουπόλει μαρτυρήσας κατὰ τῷ ͵αχοβʹ (1672), ξίφει τελειοῦται.

The holy New Martyr Nicholas the Grocer witnessed in Constantinople in 1672 and died by the sword.

Ἀνοίξω τὸ στόμα μου, καὶ πληρωθήσεται Πνεύματος, καὶ λόγον ἐρεύξομαι, τῇ Βασιλίδι Μητρί, καὶ ὀφθήσομαι, φαιδρῶς πανηγυρίζων, καὶ ᾄσω γηθόμενος, ταύτης τὰ θαύματα.

I will open my mouth and it will be filled with the Spirit, and I will utter a word to the Queen and Mother, and I shall be seen keeping glad festival, and rejoicing I will sing her wonders. [Lash]

ᾨδὴ γʹ.

Τοὺς σοὺς ὑμνολόγους Θεοτόκε, ὡς ζῶσα καὶ ἄφθονος πηγή, θίασον συγκροτήσαντας πνευματικόν, στερέωσον· καὶ ἐν τῇ θείᾳ δόξῃ σου, στεφάνων δόξης ἀξίωσον.

O Mother of God, as living and bounteous source, establish those united in spiritual fellowship who sing hymns you of praise, and in your divine glory grant them crowns of glory. [Lash]

Τὴν ἀνεξιχνίαστον θείαν βουλήν, τῆς ἐκ τῆς Παρθένου σαρκώσεως, σοῦ τοῦ Ὑψίστου, ὁ Προφήτης, Ἀββακούμ, κατανοῶν ἐκραύγαζε· Δόξα τῇ δυνάμει σου Κύριε.

The Prophet Avvakoum, understanding the unsearchable divine counsel of your incarnation from the Virgin, O Most High, cried out: Glory to your power, O Lord. [Lash]

The universe was amazed at your divine glory, for you, O Virgin, who knew not wedlock held in your womb the God over all and gave birth to an eternal Son, who gives salvation as the prize to all who sing your praise. [Lash]

Τὴν θείαν ταύτην καὶ πάντιμον, τελοῦντες ἑορτὴν οἱ θεόφρονες, τῆς Θεομήτορος, δεῦτε τὰς χεῖρας κροτήσωμεν, τὸν ἐξ αὐτῆς τεχθέντα Θεὸν δοξάζοντες.

Come godly-minded people, as we celebrate this divine and honoured feast of the Mother of God, let us clap our hands as we glorify the God who was born of her. [Lash]

Οὐκ ἐλάτρευσαν τῇ κτίσει οἱ θεόφρονες, παρὰ τὸν Κτίσαντα, ἀλλὰ πυρὸς ἀπειλήν, ἀνδρείως πατήσαντες, χαίροντες ἔψαλλον. Ὑπερύμνητε, ὁ τῶν Πατέρων Κύριος, καὶ Θεὸς εὐλογητὸς εἶ.

The godlike Children did not worship creation instead of the Creator, but bravely trampling on the threat of fire, rejoicing they sang: O highly exalted Lord and God of our fathers, blessed are you! [Lash]

Αἰνοῦμεν, εὐλογοῦμεν καὶ προσκυνοῦμεν τὸν Κύριον.

We praise and we bless and we worship the Lord.

The Offspring of the Mother of God saved the innocent Youths in the furnace. Then he was prefigured, but now in reality he gathers the whole world which sings: All you works praise the Lord, and highly exalt him to all the ages. [Lash]

Elizabeth had conceived the Forerunner of grace; the Virgin conceived the Lord of glory. The mothers greeted each other, and the babe leaped for joy; for even in the womb, the servant extolled the Master. The mother of the Forerunner marveled, and she exclaimed with a loud cry, “Why is this granted me, that the mother of my Lord should come to me?” That He might save a people in despair, He who has the great mercy.
