God is the Lord, and He revealed Himself to us. Blessed is he who comes in the name of the Lord. [SAAS]

Στίχ. αʹ. Ἐξομολογεῖσθε τῷ Κυρίῳ καὶ ἐπικαλεῖσθε τὸ ὄνομα τὸ ἅγιον αὐτοῦ.

Verse 1: Give thanks to the Lord and call upon His holy name.

Στίχ. βʹ. Πάντα τὰ ἔθνη ἐκύκλωσάν με, καὶ τῷ ὀνόματι Κυρίου ἠμυνάμην αὐτούς.

Verse 2: All the nations surrounded me, but in the name of the Lord I defended myself against them.

Στίχ. γʹ. Παρὰ Κυρίου ἐγένετο αὕτη καὶ ἔστι θαυμαστὴ ἐν ὀφθαλμοῖς ἡμῶν.

Verse 3: And this came about from the Lord, and it is wonderful in our eyes.

Ἀπόστολε Χριστῷ τῷ Θεῷ ἠγαπημένε, ἐπιτάχυνον, ῥῦσαι λαὸν ἀναπολόγητον· δέχεταί σε προσπίπτοντα, ὁ ἐπιπεσόντα τῷ στήθει καταδεξάμενος, ὃν ἱκέτευε, Θεολόγε, καὶ ἐπίμονον νέφος ἐθνῶν διασκεδάσαι, αἰτούμενος ἡμῖν εἰρήνην, καὶ τὸ μέγα ἔλεος.

Beloved Apostle of Christ our God, hasten, deliver a people without defence. As he accepted that you lean upon his breast, he accepts you as you fall before him. Implore him, O Theologian, and scatter the persistent cloud of nations, asking for us peace and his great mercy. [Lash]

All your mysteries are beyond understanding, all beyond glory, Mother of God; sealed in purity and guarded in virginity you were known without deception to be a Mother, in giving birth to the true God: implore him that our souls may be saved. [Lash]

Τῆς παναγίας, ἀχράντου, ὑπερευλογημένης, ἐνδόξου, δεσποίνης ἡμῶν Θεοτόκου καὶ ἀειπαρθένου Μαρίας μετὰ πάντων τῶν ἁγίων μνημονεύσαντες, ἑαυτοὺς καὶ ἀλλήλους καὶ πᾶσαν τὴν ζωὴν ἡμῶν Χριστῷ τῷ Θεῷ παραθώμεθα.

Commemorating our all-holy, pure, most blessed and glorious Lady, Mother of God and Ever-Virgin Mary, with all the Saints, let us entrust ourselves and one another and our whole life to Christ our God.

You were named son of divine thunder, for you deafened the ears of the impious, and more sweetly than a trumpet you made the incarnation of the Word sound in upright hearts. As a true friend you leant on his breast; from which you drew out the deep of knowledge, all-wise Apostle John, and proclaimed to all the One who is with the Father without beginning. Intercede with Christ God to bestow forgiveness of faults on those who celebrate with love your holy memory. [Lash]

Τὴν Σοφίαν καὶ Λόγον ἐν σῇ γαστρί, συλλαβοῦσα ἀφράστως Μῆτερ Θεοῦ, τῷ κόσμῳ ἐκύησας, τὸν τὸν κόσμον κατέχοντα· καὶ ἐν ἀγκάλαις ἔσχες, τὸν πάντα συνέχοντα, τὸν τροφοδότην πάντων, καὶ Πλάστην τῆς φύσεως. Ὅθεν δυσωπῶ σε, Παναγία Παρθένε, ῥυσθῆναι πταισμάτων μου, ὅταν μέλλω παρίστασθαι, πρὸ προσώπου τοῦ Κτίστου μου. By conceiving the Wisdom and Word of God * in your womb inexplicably, Mother of God, * for the world’s sake you carried Him who has the whole world in His hand, * and in your arms you held Him who holds together the universe, * which He provides with food, as Creator of nature all. * Therefore, O all-holy Virgin Mary, I pray you, * that I be forgiven of my offenses when I shall stand before Him who created me. * O all-lauded Lady most pure, I implore you to assist me in that hour. * I am sure you can accomplish whatever you wish. Having abandoned the deep of fishing, O all-praised, you caught all the na­tions like fishes with the rod of the Cross; for as Christ had said to you, you were named a fisher of men, catching them for true religion; therefore you sowed the knowledge of the Word of God and made Patmos and Ephesus fruitful by your words. Theologian, Apostle, intercede with Christ God to bestow forgiveness of faults on those who feast with love your holy memory. [Lash]

Ἐνθυμοῦμαι τὴν κρίσιν καὶ δειλιῶ, ἔργα πράξας αἰσχύνης ὁ ταπεινός, ἄξια καὶ δέομαι, Θεοτόκε πανύμνητε· Πρὶν ἢ νύξ με φθάσῃ, θανάτου ἐπίστρεψον, πρὸς τὴν τῆς μετανοίας, ὁδὸν ὁδηγοῦσα με· ἵνα εὐχαρίστως, προσκυνῶν ἀνυμνῶ σου, τὴν ἄμετρον δύναμιν, καὶ τὴν θείαν ἀντίληψιν, Παναγία Θεόνυμφε, πρεσβεύουσα Χριστῷ τῷ Θεῷ, ὑπὲρ οὗ αἰτοῦμαι σε, δοθῆναί μοι, ἱλασμὸν ἁμαρτιῶν, καὶ τὸ μέγα ἔλεος.

I consider the judgement and I quail, for, wretch that I am, I have done deeds of shame, and I ask, all-praised Mother of God: Before the night of death overtakes me, turn me back, guiding me to the way of repentance, that with thanksgiving I may worship and hymn your measureless power and your divine assistance, All-holy Bride of God, as you in­tercede with Christ God for what I ask of you: that there may be given me pardon of sins and his great mercy. [Lash]

Ἀναπεσὼν ἐν τῷ στήθει τοῦ Ἰησοῦ, παῤῥησίας τυγχάνων ὡς Μαθητής, ἠρώτησας, Τίς ἐστιν, ὁ προδότης σου Κύριε; καὶ ὡς ἠγαπημένῳ, ὑπάρχοντι ἔνδοξε, διὰ τοῦ ἄρτου οὗτος, σαφῶς ὑπεδείχθη σοι. Ὅθεν καὶ ὡς μύστης, γεγονὼς τῶν ἀῤῥήτων, τοῦ Λόγου τὴν σάρκωσιν, ἐκδιδάσκεις τὰ πέρατα. Leaning on Jesus’ breast, gaining boldness as a disciple, you asked, 'Who is your betrayer, Lord?' And as to one beloved, glorious Apostle, he was clearly shown to you through the bread. Therefore too, as an initiate of ineffable things, you teach the ends of the earth the incarnation of the Word. Theologian, Apostle, intercede with Christ God to bestow forgiveness of faults on those who feast with love your holy memory. [Lash]

Παναγία Παρθένε Μήτηρ Θεοῦ, τῆς ψυχῆς μου τὰ πάθη τὰ χαλεπά, θεράπευσον δέομαι, καὶ συγγνώμην παράσχου μοι, τῶν ἐμῶν πταισμάτων, ἀφρόνως ὧν ἔπραξα, τὴν ψυχὴν καὶ τὸ σῶμα, μολύνας ὁ ἄθλιος. Οἴμοι! τί ποιήσω, ἐν ἐκείνῃ τῇ ὥρᾳ, ἡνίκα οἱ Ἄγγελοι, τὴν ψυχήν μου χωρίζουσιν, ἐκ τοῦ ἀθλίου μου σώματος; τότε Δέσποινα, βοήθειά μοι γενοῦ, καὶ προστάτις θερμότατος· σὲ γὰρ ἔχω ἐλπίδα ὁ δοῦλος σου.

All-holy Virgin, Mother of God, heal, I beg, the dreadful passions of my soul, and grant me pardon of my faults, which I have senselessly committed, fouling my soul and body, wretch that I am. Alas! what shall I do in that hour when the Angels separate my soul from my wretched body? Then, Lady, be my help and fervent protector; for I, your servant, have you as my hope. [Lash]

From my youth up many passions make war on me; but you, O Saviour, help me and save me. (2) [Lash]

Οἱ μισοῦντες Σιών, αἰσχύνθητε ἀπὸ τοῦ Κυρίου· ὡς χόρτος γάρ, πυρὶ ἔσεσθε ἀπεξηραμμένοι. (δίς)

You who hate Sion, may you be put to shame by the Lord; for you will be dried up as grass by fire. (2) [Lash]

By the Holy Spirit every soul is given life, and by cleansing it is exalted; it is made bright by the threefold Unity in a sacred mystery. [Lash]

Verse: The heavens declare the glory of God; the firmament shows the creation of His hands.

At that time, Jesus revealed himself to the disciples after he was raised from the dead. And he said to Simon Peter, “Simon, son of John, do you love me more than these?” He said to him, “Yes, Lord; you know that I love you.” He said to him, “Feed my lambs.” A second time he said to him, “Simon, son of John, do you love me?” He said to him, “Yes, Lord; you know that I love you.” He said to him, “Tend my sheep.” He said to him the third time, “Simon, son of John, do you love me?” Peter was grieved because he said to him the third time, “Do you love me?” And he said to him, “Lord, you know everything; you know that I love you.” Jesus said to him, “Feed my sheep. Follow me!” The saying spread abroad among the brethren that this disciple was not to die; yet Jesus did not say to him that he was not to die, but, “If it is my will that he remain until I come, what is that to you?” This is the disciple who is bearing witness to these things, and who has written these things; and we know that his testimony is true. Against You only have I sinned and done evil in Your sight; that You may be justified in Your words, and overcome when You are judged. For behold, I was conceived in transgressions, and in sins my mother bore me. Behold, You love truth; You showed me the unknown and secret things of Your wisdom. You shall sprinkle me with hyssop, and I will be cleansed; You shall wash me, and I will be made whiter than snow. I will open my mouth and it will be filled with the Spirit, and I will utter a word to the Queen and Mother, and I shall be seen keeping glad festival, and rejoicing I will sing her wonders. [Lash]

The godlike Children did not worship creation instead of the Creator, but bravely trampling on the threat of fire, rejoicing they sang: O highly exalted Lord and God of our fathers, blessed are you! [Lash]

Δόξα σοι τῷ δείξαντι τὸ φῶς. Δόξα ἐν ὑψίστοις Θεῷ καὶ ἐπὶ γῆς εἰρήνη, ἐν ἀνθρώποις εὐδοκία.
