Ἤ, ἀντὶ τῶν Ἀντιφώνων, κατὰ τὸ τυπικόν, ψάλλονται τὰ Τυπικὰ καὶ οἱ Μακαρισμοί.

Ἐν τῇ Βασιλείᾳ σου μνήσθητι ἡμῶν Κύριε, ὅταν ἔλθῃς ἐν τῇ Βασιλείᾳ σου. Μακάριοι οἱ πτωχοὶ τῷ πνεύματι, ὅτι αὐτῶν ἐστιν ἡ Βασιλεία τῶν οὐρανῶν.

In Your kingdom. Remember us, O Lord, when You come in Your kingdom. Blessed are the poor in spirit, for theirs is the kingdom of heaven

Μακάριοι οἱ πενθοῦντες, ὅτι αὐτοὶ παρακληθήσονται.

Blessed are those who mourn, for they shall be comforted.

Μακάριοι οἱ πρᾳεῖς, ὅτι αὐτοὶ κληρονομήσουσι τὴν γῆν.

Blessed are the meek, for they shall inherit the earth.

Μακάριοι οἱ πεινῶντες καὶ διψῶντες τὴν δικαιοσύνην, ὅτι αὐτοὶ χορτασθήσονται.

Blessed are those who hunger and thirst for righteousness, for they shall be satisfied.

Μακάριοι οἱ ἐλεήμονες, ὅτι αὐτοὶ ἐλεηθήσονται.

Blessed are the merciful, for they shall obtain mercy. [RSV]

Διὰ ξύλου ὁ Ἀδάμ, Παραδείσου γέγονεν ἄποικος, διὰ ξύλου δὲ Σταυροῦ, ὁ Λῃστὴς Παράδεισον ᾤκησεν· ὁ μὲν γὰρ γευσάμενος, ἐντολὴν ἠθέτησε τοῦ ποιήσαντος, ὁ δὲ συσταυρούμενος, Θεὸν ὡμολόγησε τὸν κρυπτόμενον. Μνήσθητί μου βοῶν, ἐν τῇ Βασιλείᾳ σου.

Through a tree Adam became an exile from Paradise; but through the tree of the Cross the Thief made his home in Paradise, for the former through tasting set aside his Maker’s commandment, while the latter, crucified with him, confessed the hidden God, as he cried, 'Remember me in your kingdom'. [Lash]

Μακάριοι οἱ καθαροὶ τῇ καρδίᾳ, ὅτι αὐτοὶ τὸν Θεὸν ὄψονται.

Blessed are the pure in heart, for they shall see God. [RSV]

Ὁ ὑψωθεὶς ἐν τῷ Σταυρῷ, καὶ τοῦ θανάτου λύσας τὴν δύναμιν, καὶ ἐξαλείψας ὡς Θεός, τὸ καθ’ ἡμῶν χειρόγραφον Κύριε, Λῃστοῦ τὴν μετάνοιαν, καὶ ἡμῖν παράσχου μόνε φιλάνθρωπε, τοῖς πίστει λατρεύουσι, Χριστὲ ὁ Θεὸς ἡμῶν, καὶ βοῶσί σοι· Μνήσθητι καὶ ἡμῶν, ἐν τῇ Βασιλείᾳ σου.

You were lifted up on the Cross, O Lord, and you abolished the power of death, and as God you expunged the record against us. O only lover of mankind, grant the Thief’s repentance to us also, who serve you with faith, O Christ our God, and cry to you, 'Remember us also in your kingdom'. [Lash]

Μακάριοι οἱ εἰρηνοποιοί, ὅτι αὐτοὶ Υἱοὶ Θεοῦ κληθήσονται.

Blessed are the peacemakers, for they shall be called sons of God. [RSV]

Τὸ χειρόγραφον ἡμῶν, ἐν τῷ Σταυρῷ τῇ λόγχῃ διέῤῥηξας, καὶ λογισθεὶς ἐν τοῖς νεκροῖς, τὸν ἐκεῖσε τύραννον ἔδησας, ῥυσάμενος ἅπαντας, ἐκ δεσμῶν τοῦ ᾅδου τῇ Ἀναστάσει σου, διʼ ἧς ἐφωτίσθημεν, φιλάνθρωπε Κύριε, καὶ βοῶμέν σοι· Μνήσθητι καὶ ἡμῶν, ἐν τῇ Βασιλείᾳ σου.

On the Cross you tore up our record with the lance, and numbered among the dead you bound the tyrant there, so delivering all from the bonds of Hell by your Resurrection; through which, O Lord who loves mankind, we have been enlightened and we cry to you, 'Remember us also in your kingdom'. [Lash]

Μακάριοι οἱ δεδιωγμένοι ἕνεκεν δικαιοσύνης, ὅτι αὐτῶν ἐστιν ἡ Βασιλεία τῶν οὐρανῶν.

Blessed are those who are persecuted for righteousness’ sake, for theirs is the kingdom of heaven. [RSV]

Ὁ σταυρωθεὶς καὶ ἀναστάς, ὡς δυνατὸς ἐκ τάφου τριήμερος, καὶ τὸν πρωτόπλαστον Ἀδάμ, ἐξαναστήσας μόνε ἀθάνατε, κᾀμὲ εἰς μετάνοιαν, ἐπιστρέψαι Κύριε καταξίωσον, ἐξ ὅλης καρδίας μου, καὶ ἐν θερμῇ τῇ πίστει ἀεὶ κραυγάζειν σοι· Μνήσθητί μου Σωτήρ, ἐν τῇ Βασιλείᾳ σου.

You were crucified and rose from the tomb on the third day as conqueror, and you raised Adam again the first-formed, O only Immortal, grant me also, Lord, to turn again to repentance from my whole heart, and ever cry to you with fervent faith, 'Remember me, O Saviour, in your kingdom'. [Lash]

Μακάριοι ἐστὲ ὅταν ὀνειδίσωσιν ὑμᾶς, καὶ διώξωσι, καὶ εἴπωσι πᾶν πονηρὸν ῥῆμα καθʼ ὑμῶν, ψευδόμενοι ἕνεκεν ἐμοῦ.

Blessed are you when men revile you and persecute you and utter all kinds of evil against you falsely [for my sake]. [RSV]

Διʼ ἡμᾶς ὁ ἀπαθής, παθητὸς ἐγένετο ἄνθρωπος, καὶ ἑκουσίως ἐν Σταυρῷ, προσηλωθεὶς ἡμᾶς συνανέστησε· διὸ καὶ δοξάζομεν, σὺν τῷ Σταυρῷ τὸ Πάθος καὶ τὴν Ἀνάστασιν, διʼ ὧν ἀνεπλάσθημεν, διʼ ὧν καὶ σῳζόμεθα ἀνακράζοντες· Μνήσθητι καὶ ἡμῶν, ἐν τῇ Βασιλείᾳ σου.

For our sakes the impassible became a human, subject to suffering, and willingly nailed on the Cross he raised us with himself; therefore with the Cross we also glorify the Passion and Resurrection, through which we have been refashioned, and through which we are saved, as we cry, 'Remember us also in your kingdom'. [Lash]

Χαίρετε καὶ ἀγαλλιᾶσθε, ὅτι ὁ μισθὸς ὑμῶν πολὺς ἐν τοῖς οὐρανοῖς.

Rejoice and be glad, for your reward is great in heaven. [RSV]

Τὸν ἀναστάντα ἐκ νεκρῶν, καὶ τὸ τοῦ ᾅδου κράτος σκυλεύσαντα, καὶ ὁραθέντα γυναιξί, Μυροφόροις λέγοντα· Χαίρετε, πιστοὶ δυσωπήσωμεν, ἐκ φθορᾶς λυτρώσασθαι τὰς ψυχὰς ἡμῶν, κραυγάζοντες πάντοτε, Λῃστοῦ τοῦ εὐγνώμονος τὴν φωνὴν πρὸς αὐτόν. Μνήσθητι καὶ ἡμῶν, ἐν τῇ Βασιλείᾳ σου.

Let us the faithful implore him who rose from the dead, despoiled the might of Hell and appeared to the women as he cried: Rejoice, to free our souls from corruption, as we ever cry to him in the words of the good Thief, 'Remember us also in your kingdom'. [Lash]

Τὸν Πατέρα καὶ Υἱόν, καὶ τὸ Πνεῦμα πάντες τὸ Ἅγιον, ὁμοφρόνως οἱ πιστοί, δοξολογεῖν ἀξίως εὐξώμεθα, Μονάδα Θεότητος, ἐν τρισὶν ὑπάρχουσαν ὑποστάσεσιν, ἀσύγχυτον μένουσαν, ἁπλῆν ἀδιαίρετον καὶ ἀπρόσιτον, διʼ ἧς ἐκλυτρούμεθα, τοῦ πυρὸς τῆς κολάσεως.

Let us the faithful all with one mind vow to glorify the Father and the Son and the All-holy Spirit, Unity of Godhead in three Persons, remaining unconfused, simple, undivided and unapproachable, through which we are delivered from the fire of eternal punishment. [Lash]

Τὴν Μητέρα σου Χριστέ, τὴν ἐν σαρκὶ ἀσπόρως τεκοῦσάν σε, καὶ Παρθένον ἀληθῶς, καὶ μετὰ τόκον μείνασαν ἄφθορον, αὐτήν σοι προσάγομεν, εἰς πρεσβείαν Δέσποτα πολυέλεε, πταισμάτων συγχώρησιν, δώρησαι πάντοτε τοῖς βοῶσί σοι· Μνήσθητι καὶ ἡμῶν, ἐν τῇ Βασιλείᾳ σου.

O Christ, most merciful Master, we bring you your Mother, who bore you in the flesh without seed and truly remained a Virgin incorrupt after child-birth, to intercede: ever grant pardon of offences to those who cry to you: Remember us also in your kingdom. [Lash]

Mode 4.

Τὸ φαιδρὸν τῆς ἀναστάσεως κήρυγμα, ἐκ τοῦ Ἀγγέλου μαθοῦσαι αἱ τοῦ Κυρίου Μαθήτριαι, καὶ τὴν προγονικὴν ἀπόφασιν ἀποῤῥίψασαι, τοῖς Ἀποστόλοις καυχώμεναι ἔλεγον· Ἐσκύλευται ὁ θάνατος, ἠγέρθη Χριστὸς ὁ Θεός, δωρούμενος τῷ κόσμῳ τὸ μέγα ἔλεος.

When the women Disciples of the Lord had learnt from the Angel the joyful message of the Resurrection, casting away the ancestral condemnation, triumphantly they said to the Apostles: Death has been despoiled, Christ God has been raised, granting the world his great mercy. [Lash]

Οἱ Μάρτυρές σου Κύριε, ἐν τῇ ἀθλήσει αὐτῶν, στεφάνους ἐκομίσαντο τῆς ἀφθαρσίας, ἐκ σοῦ τοῦ Θεοῦ ἡμῶν· σχόντες γὰρ τὴν ἰσχύν σου, τοὺς τυράννους καθεῖλον, ἔθραυσαν καὶ δαιμόνων, τὰ ἀνίσχυρα θράση. Αὐτῶν ταῖς ἱκεσίαις, Χριστὲ ὁ Θεός, σῶσον τὰς ψυχὰς ἡμῶν.

Your Martyrs, O Lord, by their struggle obtained the crowns of incorruption from you, our God; for with your might they destroyed tyrants and vanquished the feeble insolence of the demons; at their intercessions, O Christ God, save our souls. [Lash]

Προστασία τῶν Χριστιανῶν ἀκαταίσχυντε, μεσιτεία, πρὸς τὸν Ποιητὴν ἀμετάθετε, μὴ παρίδῃς, ἁμαρτωλῶν δεήσεων φωνάς, ἀλλὰ πρόφθασον, ὡς ἀγαθή, εἰς τὴν βοήθειαν ἡμῶν, τῶν πιστῶς κραυγαζόντων σοι· Τάχυνον εἰς πρεσβείαν, καὶ σπεῦσον εἰς ἱκεσίαν, ἡ προστατεύουσα ἀεί, Θεοτόκε, τῶν τιμώντων σε.

Protection of Christians that cannot be put to shame, unfailing mediation with the Maker, do not despise the voices of us sinners as we pray; but, in your love, be quick to help us who cry to you with faith: Hasten to intercede, make speed to entreat, O Mother of God, for you ever protect those who honour you. Brethren, you know that a man is not justified by works of the law but through faith in Jesus Christ, even we have believed in Christ Jesus, in order to be justified by faith in Christ, and not by works of the law, because by works of the law shall no one be justified. But if, in our endeavor to be justified in Christ, we ourselves were found to be sinners, is Christ then an agent of sin? Certainly not! But if I build up again those things which I tore down, then I prove myself a transgressor. For I through the law died to the law, that I might live to God. I have been crucified with Christ; it is no longer I who live, but Christ who lives in me; and the life I now live in the flesh I live by faith in the Son of God, who loved me and gave himself for me. Τῷ καιρῷ ἐκείνῳ, ἐλθόντι τῷ Ἰησοῦ εἰς τὴν χώραν τῶν Γαδαρηνῶν ὑπήντησεν αὐτῷ ἀνήρ τις ἐκ τῆς πόλεως, ὃς εἶχε δαιμόνια ἐκ χρόνων ἱκανῶν, καὶ ἱμάτιον οὐκ ἐνεδιδύσκετο καὶ ἐν οἰκίᾳ οὐκ ἔμενεν, ἀλλ᾿ ἐν τοῖς μνήμασιν. ἰδὼν δὲ τὸν Ἰησοῦν καὶ ἀνακράξας προσέπεσεν αὐτῷ καὶ φωνῇ μεγάλῃ εἶπε· τί ἐμοὶ καὶ σοί, Ἰησοῦ, υἱὲ τοῦ Θεοῦ τοῦ ὑψίστου; δέομαί σου, μή με βασανίσῃς. παρήγγειλε γὰρ τῷ πνεύματι τῷ ἀκαθάρτῳ ἐξελθεῖν ἀπὸ τοῦ ἀνθρώπου. πολλοῖς γὰρ χρόνοις συνηρπάκει αὐτόν, καὶ ἐδεσμεῖτο ἁλύσεσι καὶ πέδαις φυλασσόμενος, καὶ διαρρήσσων τὰ δεσμὰ ἠλαύνετο ὑπὸ τοῦ δαίμονος εἰς τὰς ἐρήμους. ἐπηρώτησε δὲ αὐτὸν ὁ Ἰησοῦς λέγων· τί σοί ἐστιν ὄνομα; ὁ δὲ εἶπε· λεγεών· ὅτι δαιμόνια πολλὰ εἰσῆλθεν εἰς αὐτόν· καὶ παρεκάλει αὐτὸν ἵνα μὴ ἐπιτάξῃ αὐτοῖς εἰς τὴν ἄβυσσον ἀπελθεῖν. ἦν δὲ ἐκεῖ ἀγέλη χοίρων ἱκανῶν βοσκομένων ἐν τῷ ὄρει· καὶ παρεκάλουν αὐτὸν ἵνα ἐπιτρέψῃ αὐτοῖς εἰς ἐκείνους εἰσελθεῖν· καὶ ἐπέτρεψεν αὐτοῖς. ἐξελθόντα δὲ τὰ δαιμόνια ἀπὸ τοῦ ἀνθρώπου εἰσῆλθον εἰς τοὺς χοίρους, καὶ ὥρμησεν ἡ ἀγέλη κατὰ τοῦ κρημνοῦ εἰς τὴν λίμνην καὶ ἀπεπνίγη. ἰδόντες δὲ οἱ βόσκοντες τὸ γεγενημένον ἔφυγον, καὶ ἀπήγγειλαν εἰς τὴν πόλιν καὶ εἰς τοὺς ἀγρούς. ἐξῆλθον δὲ ἰδεῖν τὸ γεγονός, καὶ ἦλθον πρὸς τὸν Ἰησοῦν καὶ εὗρον καθήμενον τὸν ἄνθρωπον, ἀφ᾿ οὗ τὰ δαιμόνια ἐξεληλύθει, ἱματισμένον καὶ σωφρονοῦντα παρὰ τοὺς πόδας τοῦ Ἰησοῦ, καὶ ἐφοβήθησαν. ἀπήγγειλαν δὲ αὐτοῖς οἱ ἰδόντες πῶς ἐσώθη ὁ δαιμονισθείς. καὶ ἠρώτησαν αὐτὸν ἅπαν τὸ πλῆθος τῆς περιχώρου τῶν Γαδαρηνῶν ἀπελθεῖν ἀπ᾿ αὐτῶν, ὅτι φόβῳ μεγάλῳ συνείχοντο. αὐτὸς δὲ ἐμβὰς εἰς τὸ πλοῖον ὑπέστρεψεν. ἐδέετο δὲ αὐτοῦ ὁ ἀνήρ, ἀφ᾿ οὗ ἐξεληλύθει τὰ δαιμόνια, εἶναι σὺν αὐτῷ· ἀπέλυσε δὲ αὐτὸν ὁ Ἰησοῦς λέγων· ὑπόστρεφε εἰς τὸν οἶκόν σου καὶ διηγοῦ ὅσα ἐποίησέ σοι ὁ Θεός. καὶ ἀπῆλθε καθ᾿ ὅλην τὴν πόλιν κηρύσσων ὅσα ἐποίησεν αὐτῷ ὁ Ἰησοῦς.

At that time, as Jesus arrived at the country of the Gadarenes, there met him a man from the city who had demons; for a long time he had worn no clothes and he lived not in a house but among the tombs. When he saw Jesus, he cried out and fell down before him, and said with a loud voice, “What have you to do with me, Jesus, Son of the Most High God? I beseech you, do not torment me.” For he had commanded the unclean spirit to come out of the man. (For many a time it had seized him; he was kept under guard, and bound with chains and fetters, but he broke the bonds and was driven by the demon into the desert.) Jesus then asked him, “What is your name?” And he said, “Legion”; for many demons had entered him. And they begged him not to command them to depart into the abyss. Now a large herd of swine was feeding there on the hillside; and they begged him to let them enter these. So he gave them leave. Then the demons came out of the man and entered the swine, and the herd rushed down the steep bank into the lake and were drowned. When the herdsmen saw what happened, they fled, and told it in the city and in the country. Then people went out to see what had happened, and they came to Jesus, and found the man from whom the demons had gone, sitting at the feet of Jesus, clothed and in his right mind; and they were afraid. And those who had seen it told them how he who had been possessed with demons was healed. Then all the people of the surrounding country of the Gadarenes asked him to depart from them; for they were seized with great fear; so he got into the boat and returned. The man from whom the demons had gone begged that he might be with him; but Jesus sent him away, saying, “Return to your home, and declare how much God has done for you.” And he went away, proclaiming throughout the whole city how much Jesus had done for him. Ἄξιόν ἐστιν ὡς ἀληθῶς μακαρίζειν σε τὴν Θεοτόκον, τὴν ἀειμακάριστον καὶ παναμώμητον καὶ μητέρα τοῦ Θεοῦ ἡμῶν. Τὴν τιμιωτέραν τῶν Χερουβεὶμ καὶ ἐνδοξοτέραν ἀσυγκρίτως τῶν Σεραφείμ, τὴν ἀδιαφθόρως Θεὸν Λόγον τεκοῦσαν, τὴν ὄντως Θεοτόκον, σὲ μεγαλύνομεν.

It is truly right to call you blessed, who gave birth to God, ever-blessed and most pure, and Mother of our God. Greater in honour than the Cherubim and beyond compare more glorious than the Seraphim, without corruption you gave birth to God the Word; truly the Mother of God, we magnify you.

May He who rose from the dead, Christ our true God, through the intercessions of His all-pure and all-immaculate holy Mother, the power of the precious and life-giving Cross, the protection of the honorable, bodiless powers of heaven, the supplications of the honorable, glorious prophet and forerunner John the Baptist, of the holy, glorious, and praiseworthy apostles, of the holy, glorious, and triumphant martyrs, of our righteous and God-bearing fathers, (local patron saint); of the holy and righteous ancestors of God Joachim and Anna, the holy and glorious Martyrs and Notaries Marcian and Martyrius, whose memory we are observing, and of all the saints, have mercy on us and save us, as He is good, benevolent, and merciful God.
