Blessed are the merciful, for they shall obtain mercy. [RSV]

Πηγὴ εὐφροσύνης οὐρανίου, ἡ Σκέπη σου ἡ φωτοειδής, ὑπάρχει Παναμώμητε, τοῖς θλίψεσι παλαίουσι, χάριν ἀεὶ καὶ ἔλεος, καὶ σωτηρίαν βραβεύουσα.

Your Protection, formed of light, is a source of heavenly joy, O All-unblemished, ever awarding to those who wrestle with afflictions grace, mercy and salvation. [Lash]

From the beginning through compassion you placed us, as a chosen race, beneath your Protecting Veil, O Virgin, and both of old and now you have worked strange and wondrous things, rescuing us from dangers. [Lash]

Μακάριοι οἱ εἰρηνοποιοί, ὅτι αὐτοὶ Υἱοὶ Θεοῦ κληθήσονται.

Blessed are the peacemakers, for they shall be called sons of God. [RSV]

Ῥημάτων Ἀνδρέου τοῦ Ὁσίου, ἀκούσας Παρθένε εὐλαβῶς, ὁ θεῖος Ἐπιφάνιος, εἶδέ σε περισκέπουσαν, λαὸν τὸν χριστεπώνυμον, ὡς βασιλίδα οὐράνιον.

When godly Epiphanios heard the words of Venerable Andrew, he saw you as a heavenly queen protecting the people that bears Christ’s name. [Lash]

Μακάριοι οἱ δεδιωγμένοι ἕνεκεν δικαιοσύνης, ὅτι αὐτῶν ἐστιν ἡ Βασιλεία τῶν οὐρανῶν.

Blessed are those who are persecuted for righteousness’ sake, for theirs is the kingdom of heaven. [RSV]

Θαυμάτων τῆς Σκέπης σου τῆς θείας, ὁρῶντες Παρθένε τὴν πληθύν, ἃ ἐνεργεῖς ἑκάστοτε, ἡμῶν εἰς περιποίησιν, χαριστηρίους αἴνους σοι, Ἑλλήνων παῖδες προσάγομεν.

As we see the multitude of wonders of your godly Protection, O Virgin, which you work everyday for our preservation, we, the multitudes of believers, bring you thankful praises. [Lash]

Μακάριοι ἐστὲ ὅταν ὀνειδίσωσιν ὑμᾶς, καὶ διώξωσι, καὶ εἴπωσι πᾶν πονηρὸν ῥῆμα καθʼ ὑμῶν, ψευδόμενοι ἕνεκεν ἐμοῦ.

Blessed are you when men revile you and persecute you and utter all kinds of evil against you falsely [for my sake]. [RSV]

Ὁλόφωτος ἀληθῶς, ἐπέστης Παντοβασίλισσα, καὶ ἥπλωσας θαυμαστῶς, τὴν ἄχραντον Σκέπην σου, σκέπουσα τοὺς δούλους σου· ὅθεν ἀνυμνοῦμεν, τὴν πολλήν σου ἀγαθότητα.

In truth, O Queen of the universe, you appeared all light and wondrously unfolded your most pure Protection, protecting your servants. Therefore we sing the praise of your great loving-kindness. [Lash]

Χαίρετε καὶ ἀγαλλιᾶσθε, ὅτι ὁ μισθὸς ὑμῶν πολὺς ἐν τοῖς οὐρανοῖς.

Rejoice and be glad, for your reward is great in heaven. [RSV]

The Cherubim once overshadowed the ark under the Law; while now your Protection protects the Church of Christ, All blessed one, overshadows her and grants unstinted grace. [Lash]

The Israel of old was led by a cloud to the Promised Land, while the new Israel is guided by your Protecting Veil towards unending life. [Lash]

Brethren, the first tent had regulations for worship and an earthly sanctuary. For a tent was prepared, the first one, in which were the lamp stand and the table and the bread of the Presence; it is called the Holy Place. Behind the second curtain stood a tent called the Holy of Holies, having the golden altar of incense and the ark of the covenant covered on all sides with gold, which contained a golden urn holding the manna, and Aaron’s rod that budded, and the tables of the covenant; above it were the cherubim of glory overshadowing the mercy seat. Of these things we cannot now speak in detail. These preparations having thus been made, the priests go continually into the outer tent, performing their ritual duties; but into the second only the high priest goes, and he but once a year, and not without taking blood which he offers for himself and for the sins committed unintentionally by the people. Ἄξιόν ἐστιν ὡς ἀληθῶς μακαρίζειν σε τὴν Θεοτόκον, τὴν ἀειμακάριστον καὶ παναμώμητον καὶ μητέρα τοῦ Θεοῦ ἡμῶν. Τὴν τιμιωτέραν τῶν Χερουβεὶμ καὶ ἐνδοξοτέραν ἀσυγκρίτως τῶν Σεραφείμ, τὴν ἀδιαφθόρως Θεὸν Λόγον τεκοῦσαν, τὴν ὄντως Θεοτόκον, σὲ μεγαλύνομεν.

It is truly right to call you blessed, who gave birth to God, ever-blessed and most pure, and Mother of our God. Greater in honour than the Cherubim and beyond compare more glorious than the Seraphim, without corruption you gave birth to God the Word; truly the Mother of God, we magnify you.

We have seen the true light; we have received the heavenly Spirit; we have found the true faith, worshiping the undivided Trinity, for the Trinity has saved us.

Again we pray for the protection of the Holy and Great Church of Christ, our Sacred Archdiocese (and this Sacred Metropolis), this city and every city and land, from wrath, famine, pestilence, earthquake, flood, fire, sword, foreign invasion, civil strife, and accidental death. That our good and benevolent God may be merciful, gracious, and forgiving, and may divert and disperse all anger and disease coming against us, and deliver us from His impending justified threat and have mercy on us.

For behold, our leaders and all the congregation of the people, having gathered together, commemorate the wonderful and great event which Your right hand has accomplished in our days, so as to demonstrate that there is a day of the Lord upon everyone that is insolent and arrogant, a day of falling for all who are haughty and self-exalted; for You have shaken the glorious in Your might, and have crushed the proud and insolent with Your power. For this reason, Lord, on this day our whole Land is full of praises for You, and in rejoicing and gratitude we cry to You: Make Your paths known to us, O Lord, and teach us Your ways; direct us in Your path and guide all of us, both leaders and people, to Your truth; for many are the enemies surrounding us, but blessed are the people whose helper is the Lord their God.
