Today is the foreshadowing of the good-pleasure of God, and the proclaiming of the salvation of mankind. In the Temple of God the Virgin is revealed, and be-forehand she announces Christ to all. To her let us also cry aloud with mighty voice: Hail, the fulfilment of the Creator’s dispensation! [Lash] |

When you had truly risen from the tomb you ordered the holy women to proclaim the Resurrection to the Apostles, as it is written; and Peter, coming at full speed, stood by the grave and seeing the light in the tomb was struck with amazement. And so he both saw the grave clothes lying there alone, without the divine body, and he believed and cried out: Glory to you Christ God, because you save us all, our Saviour, for you are the brightness of the Father. “Why do you mingle the ointments with your tears full of pity, O women disciples?” Thus the Angel who was shining in the tomb cried to the myrrh-bearing women. “See for yourselves the empty tomb and understand, that the Savior has risen from the sepulcher.” |

When Jesus rose early on the first day of the week, he appeared first to Mary Magdalene, from whom he had cast out seven demons. She went out and told those who had been with him, as they mourned and wept. But when they heard that he was alive and had been seen by her, they would not believe it. After this he appeared in another form to two of them, as they were walking into the country. And they went back and told the rest, but they did not believe them. Afterward he appeared to the eleven themselves as they sat at table; and he upbraided them for their unbelief and hardness of heart, because they had not believed those who saw him after he had risen. And he said to them, “Go into all the world and preach the gospel to the whole creation. He who believes and is baptized will be saved; but he who does not believe will be condemned. And these signs will accompany those who believe: in my name they will cast out demons; they will speak in new tongues; they will pick up serpents, and if they drink any deadly thing, it will not hurt them; they will lay their hands on the sick, and they will recover.” So then the Lord, after he had spoken to them, was taken up into heaven, and sat down at the right hand of God. And they went forth and preached everywhere, while the Lord worked with them and confirmed the message by the signs that attended it. Amen. [RSV] |

We fans of the saints now venerate the tomb of devout * Iakovos, the new and wonderful ascetic and Saint, * extolling him worthily. * For from his early childhood he had truly devoted * himself as a precious gift to Christ the Lord and Master, * becoming for the faithful a teacher inspired by God. |
Shout, O David, and declare: * What is this present feast? * Here is she, whom you extolled * in the inspired book of Psalms, * as a daughter and child of God and Virgin, * saying that virgins shall be brought * to the King mystically, * her neighbors shall be led * with joy and gladness to Him. * Now with your words add to the splendor of this feast day, * which is observed throughout the world by those who cry: * The Theotokos, who brought salvation, * has come to us in the Temple. I am now stricken with awe. I sing with wonder and shout with a loud voice: * O all you works of the Lord, bless the Lord your God!” [RB] |

Anna replied to him with a clear voice: * “I stand, beseeching the true God; * I call on him with my faith and my fervent pray’r * to take now the fruit of my travail joyfully. * I vowed after birth I would give her to him who gave her to me. * So therefore, joyfully leaping, I cry out: * O all you works of the Lord, bless the Lord your God!” [RB] |

Begotten simple in your divine nature that is without beginning, you became compound by assuming flesh, giving it substance in yourself, O Word of God, and having suffered as man, you remained beyond suffering as God, and so in two natures inseparably and unconfusedly we magnify you. [Lash] |

Soaring higher than the power of speech * is your miracle, O pure Theotokos. * For beyond all reason I perceive in you a body * that in no way admitted the flow of sin. * Therefore with thanksgiving I cry out: * You, O pure and virgin Maiden, are truly superior to all. [SD] |
Angels and people, let us all honor the Entry of the virgin Maid, how she entered in glory into the Holy of Holies. |

Paradoxally the Law prefigured you, * O pure one, as a jar and tabernacle, * spiritual ark and rod of Aaron and the curtain, * indestructible Temple and the gate of God. * Thus it teaches us all to cry out: * You, O pure and virgin Maiden, are truly superior to all. [SD] |

Ascetic Iakovos, you seemed * like an angel in St. David’s Monastery on Evia, distinguishing yourself * in ascetic labor * and excision of your will. * And then you were ordained and you worthily put on the most esteemed * sacred vestments, as a holy priest * sanctifying * the faithful who came to you. When Mary Magdalene announced the good news of the Savior's resurrection from the dead and His appearance, the Disciples would not believe. So they were upbraided for their hardness of heart. But once they were fully equipped with the signs and miracles, they were sent out to preach. So then You, O Lord, were taken up to Your Father, the Source of Light; and they went and preached the word everywhere, and were confirmed by the miracles. Therefore we, who have been enlightened by them, glorify Your resurrection from the dead, O Lord who loves humanity. [SD] |

And, as you are good and love humankind, pardon us if we have sinned in anything, voluntarily or involuntarily, granting us your blessings both of this world and of the world above. |
